What is small Intestine Cancer?
Small intestine is a part of the body’s digestive system. It is a tube that connects the stomach to the large intestine and when cancer cells form in the tissues of the small intestine, it is known as small intestine cancer. This cancer is very rare but the cancerous cells can spread to other parts of the body.
Many times, the primary tumor in the small intestine cannot be picked up on diagnostic tests and is detected during surgery. The peritoneal disease is usually widespread at the time of diagnosis as the primary tumor may have not produced any symptoms for a long time. This allows the cancer to spread all over the peritoneal cavity.
The treatment and prognosis of this form of cancer is similar to that of colorectal peritoneal metastases.
